Ramen Grilled Cheese Sandwich (Print Version)

Crispy ramen buns layered with mozzarella and cheddar make a flavorful, gooey handheld snack.

# Components:

→ Ramen Buns

01 - 2 packs (3 oz each) instant ramen noodles, seasoning discarded
02 - 2 large eggs
03 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
04 - 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

→ Cheese Filling

05 - 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (approx. 100 g)
06 - 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (approx. 100 g)

→ For Cooking

07 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter or neutral oil

# Directions:

01 - Cook instant ramen noodles in boiling water for 2–3 minutes, then drain thoroughly and let cool slightly.
02 - In a medium bowl, whisk eggs with black pepper and optional garlic powder, then combine with cooked ramen noodles.
03 - Divide noodle mixture into 4 equal portions and firmly shape each into a round patty approximately the size of a burger bun, using a ring mold or plastic wrap-lined small bowl if desired.
04 - Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat and add butter or oil. Fry patties for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp, then transfer to a plate.
05 - Place half the shredded cheese on two ramen buns, top each with a second bun, and gently press together.
06 - Clean the skillet, add more butter or oil, then cook sandwiches over medium-low heat for 2–3 minutes per side, pressing lightly until cheese melts and buns are crisp and golden.
07 - Slice sandwiches and serve immediately while hot.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • The ramen buns get impossibly crispy, almost like hash browns but with that satisfying chew
  • Its the ultimate comfort food fusion that feels wrong but tastes so right
  • Ready in under 30 minutes with ingredients you probably already have
02 -
  • Let the noodles cool slightly before mixing with eggs or you will end up with scrambled egg bits instead of cohesive patties
  • Do not be shy about pressing the patties firmly because loose noodles will fall apart during cooking
  • Medium low heat for the final melt is crucial so the buns do not burn before the cheese is ready
03 -
  • Use a nonstick skillet or well seasoned cast iron because the rice flour coating can stick to stainless steel
  • Let the assembled sandwich rest for a minute before cutting so the cheese has time to set slightly
  • If your buns are browning too fast, finish melting the cheese under the broiler for a minute
